Description

If you’re looking for a value colt with genuine upside, international Group 1 performance, and a female line that has delivered stamina, toughness and black‑type for generations, this State Of Rest × Porcellanus colt is the complete package. He’s put together nicely, has a fantastic action and will mature into a very nice horse.

THE SIRE: STATE OF REST — A GLOBAL GROUP 1 STAR WITH A UNIQUE RECORD

It takes a very good horse to win a Gr. 1. It takes an outstanding horse to win multiple Group 1s. And it takes a unique horse to win them in four different countries - that is the State Of Rest story.

A member of the great globetrotting sire line of Starspangledbanner and Choisir, State Of Rest was a world‑class competitor from the moment he stepped onto a racetrack.

His race record is extraordinary:

  • Gr.1 W.S. Cox Plate (AUS) — defeating Anamoe and Verry Elleegant

  • Gr.1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes (UK)

  • Gr.1 Saratoga Derby (USA)

  • Gr.1 Prix Ganay (FR)

Five wins from 13 starts, Group‑placed at two, and a Cox Plate winner at three joining So You Think, Savabeel and Shamus Award, all elite stallions.

State Of Rest retired as one of the most versatile, durable and internationally proven horses of his generation. His first local crop turns two in August, and he is already off the mark as a stallion Anad scoring strongly on debut in the UK in late May.

This is a sire with genuine global class, a stallion profile built on toughness, adaptability and elite performance.

THE DAM: PORCELLANUS — A FAMILY THAT DELIVERS

A $NZ220,000 yearling purchased by Gai Waterhouse, Porcellanus showed immediate talent winning easily at Newcastle and Warwick Farm at her first two starts as favourite. She was highly regarded enough to contest the Gr.1 Queensland Oaks, and later earned black‑type with a game third in the Gr.3 Angst Stakes at Randwick.

She is by High Chaparral, one of Sadler’s Wells’ greatest sons and a broodmare sire of immense influence:

  • 103 stakes winners as a broodmare sire

  • 16 Group 1 winners produced by his daughters

Porcellanus is a proven producer:

  • Quasimoto — Adrenaline was underbidder - Listed‑placed at two in Wyong Magic Millions to Sovereign Fund (2nd Magic Millions Guineas to Abounding)

  • Echo Gem — Sydney metro winner

  • Echo Lad — Sydney metro winner

  • Copartner Ambition — 7 wins in Hong Kong

  • Casual Success — Adrenaline horse who was talented but retired early with issue.

  • Circuit Bubu (Smart Missile) — $275,000 Magic Millions purchase by HKJC

Her dam Casual Chick was a multiple city winner and a superb producer — eight winners from eight runners, including black‑type performers Keep Cool (9 wins, also by High Chaparral) and Aridity.

The 3rd dam Cobanna was unraced but very effective in the breeding barn producing seven winners including dual Group 1 winner Coco Cobanna (AJC Oaks, Metropolitan Handicap).

This is a female line stacked with quality: Ellsberg (Gr.1 Epsom), Swift Gun, Mohican Brave, Dorf Command, Wait And Hope, Electric General, Sky Call, Dodge City (31 wins) and more.

A family with depth, durability and genuine black‑type class.

PEDIGREE NOTES — A CROSS WITH SERIOUS MOMENTUM

This colt is bred on a pattern that has already proven highly effective.

  • Sadler's Wells the sire of High Chaparral has always combined exceptionally well with his 3/4 brother Nureyev whose Gr.1 son Zilzal is the second dam sire of State Of Rest.

  • The duplication of the great mare Special (dam of Nureyev, grandam of Sadler’s Wells) is a powerful line‑breeding force. Porcellanus already carries a cross of Special’s prolific third dam Rough Shod, adding further genetic reinforcement. Starspangledbanner (sire of State Of Rest) loves Sadler’s Wells/High Chaparral mares producing Group 1 winners California Spangle, Puchkine, and The Wow Signal on this cross.

  • The High Chaparral × Choisir combination boasts a 68.3% winners strike rate, producing six stakes winners on top of the three major Group 1 horses.

  • The in‑form dual Gr.3 winner Yellow Brick is bred on an almost identical pattern by a Choisir stallion out of a High Chaparral mare whose dam is by Casual Lies; just like this colt.

  • State Of Rest’s first winner Arad is out of a mare carrying Sadler’s Wells the same influence found in Porcellanus via High Chaparral.

WHY THIS COLT?

Because he represents everything buyers want in a high‑quality Australian racehorse:

  • A sire with international Group 1 versatility and a stallion profile trending upward

  • A dam with stakes ability and a quality producing record

  • A genetic cross with multiple Group 1 precedents and a strong winners strike rate

  • A female line that has delivered quality for generations

With time this colt has the pedigree, scope and class to develop into a serious racehorse.

To be trained by multiple Group 1 winner Paul Jenkins.
